State Department for Devolution Steps Up Climate Action with Tree Planting in Bomet
On Monday 12th May 2025, the State Department for Devolution, carried out a major tree planting drive at the Siongiroi Block of the Chepalungu Forest in Bomet County. The tree pkantong sessions was done in support of the President’s goal to plant 15 billion trees by 2032.The State Department joined the day’s Chief Guest, Deputy Head of Public Service, Amos Gathecha in a joint tree planting session for the Executive Office of the President.
Cumulatively, the Executive Office of the President (EoP) that includes Office of The Deputy President, Republic of Kenya , State Department for Devolution and State Department for Cabinet Affairs, has planted 300,000 trees at Chepalungu Forest.Chepalungu Forest, alongside Chogoria Forest and Nairobi City County, is one of three landscapes entrusted to the EoP by the Ministry of Environment & Forestry, following the Presidential Directive of December 2022 on accelerated national tree growing.In his remarks PS Michael Loikenu Lenasalon called for increased efforts to conserve the environment as climate change is no longer a distant threat, as its impact is being felt in our counties every day.
"This is why, through the Second Kenya Devolution Support Program, we are equipping the counties with the tools, knowledge and systems they need not just to respond, but to build lasting resilience," said PS Lenasalon.
Among those present during the tree planting session were: The Principal Secretary for Cabinet Affairs Dr. Idris Dakota, the Chief of Staff at the Office of the Deputy President Wanjiku Wakogi and Bomet Governor Prof. Hillary Barchok and Deputy Governor Shadrack Rotich, among others.Representing the State Department for Devolution was the Secretary Devolution Mahat Osman Shalle, the Director for Partnerships and Intergovernmental Relations Lesley Khayadi, the Director for Capacity Building and Technical Assistance Kennedy Nyambati and the Director for Administration Justine Nelima.The State Department for Devolution is committed to keep planting, collaborating and growing a climate-resilient Kenya.
